Rangers and Druids

Rangers: In this setting (specifically in Kalifaa), a “Ranger” is both a Class, and a Job, or profession. Much like a real-world Park Ranger, these Rangers are tasked with protection of the “wild” areas, and, among other things, have the authority to enforce the law, make arrests, and the like. Each Ranger has an assigned “Ward” in which they operate. Depending on the size of each Ward, the population within it, and other factors such as how abundant the animal population is; a certain number of Rangers are assigned to each Ward. The Rangers have never been numerous, there are fewer than 2,000 in all of Kalifaa. Their commander is referred to as a “Chieftain”, though this position is an administrative title, rather than a hereditary one. The Chieftain will normally report to the Duke, though provisions have been made for emergency (wartime for instance)liaising with the Marshall of Kalifaa.

Druids: In Kalifaa (perhaps elsewhere too), Druids hold a special place in society. They are accorded much the same respect as, say, a constable, or, indeed, the Rangers. However in many ways they are “outside” regular society. For a real-world example, perhaps one could look to how clergy are often accorded extra respect and, often, access where others are not. For instance a clergyman being asked to be a “go-between” for two hostile parties. (There are even cases when a police force has asked their help) This isn’t a perfect comparison, but there are some similarities as far as the “existing in two-worlds” nature. The Druids (very few in number) are accorded several dispensations, (for instance, they are not subject to conscription in Kalifaa) and a few privileges; such as access to government officials.
